Common Household items that can be used for cleaning purposes

Eco Friendly DIY Cleaners

Every household has many common natural ingredients that can be used for cleaning purposes either on their own or in combination to create powerful natural cleaners. These cleaners work as well if not better than over the counter chemicals.

  • Baking soda is a natural protein decomposer and a natural deodorizer. It works best for cleaning grease and animal messes. Baking soda soft granulates are  slightly abrasive, and this property makes it safe for scouring surfaces without scratching them.

  • Distilled White Vinegar is best used for dissolving water scales, cleaning mold, removing soap scum, and removing rust, coffee and tea stains

  • Hydrogen peroxide is a more eco-friendly alternative to harsh chlorine bleach, it is simply water with an extra oxygen molecule. Unlike bleach, hydrogen peroxide breaks down into harmless oxygen and water. It can be used to easily and effectively remove pet stains on carpet without damaging the color or fibers.

  • Borax is a salt that easily dissolves in water and can be added to laundry machines or used in the kitchen. This powerful alkali that can be used to  break down tough dirt, oil and grease stains from fabric. It can be also be used as a kitchen cleaner when mixed with water in a spray bottle. 

  • Essential oils such as tea tree, lavender, lemon, and lemongrass when boiled and/or put in a spray bottle can be used as an air freshener. Essential oils can also be used as a furniture cleaner by spraying the oil on a microfiber cloth.  Tea tree oil has  powerful antibacterial properties and can make your furniture shine. 

  • Baking soda, vinegar, borax solutions when combined with essential oils can make powerful cleaners with a pleasant scent.
